He holds a bachelor’s degree in Art and Education, majoring in Islamic Studies & Shariah, from the University of Saba’, Republic of Yemen, and completed his master’s degree in Islamic Banking, Finance, and Management from University of Gloucestershire, UK.
In January 2012, he joined International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (“ISRA”) as an Associate Researcher. Since July 2012, he holds the post of Manager Training and Translation under ISRA Consulting. Recently he has been appointed as Shariah Consultant. Apart from that, he is also an interview committee for ISRA Scholarship. Prior to joining ISRA, he worked as a consultant (learning and development) for an Islamic youth movement for Malaysian students in the UK and Eire. He is also closely engaged with the industry by developing training modules, conducting training, providing advisory services as well as Shariah audit & review.
At present, Mazrul Shahir is a Shari’ah Committee for Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) and BNP Paribas Malaysia Berhad. He has published and presented a number of research papers related to Takaful, Islamic Capital Market, Islamic Banking and Finance, Sukuk and Waqf (Islamic endowment). Several numbers of his articles have been published in international magazines such as General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI). Apart from that His research interest is in Microfinance, Crowdfunding, Fiqh Mu‘amalat, Halal Industry, etc. Starting February 2019, Mazrul Shahir has been appointed as a fellowship advisory committee for Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK).
